I'm no guru but shouldn't you be double quoting the prepare
statement:
my $sth = $dbh->prepare("update override_exclude set th_flag='N'
where pid=$pid")
or better still
my $sth = $dbh->prepare('update override_exclude set th_flag="N"
where pid=?")
$sth->execute($pid);
