I typically use something like:
$clear = `clear`;
print "$clear";
Make sure the clear command is in your path ('which clear' from the shell
will tell you if/where it is).
Saving the results of the clear command to a variable saves you from having
to make a system call every time you want to clear the screen (helpful if
it is something you are doing often in the program).
