Well, IPC::Run2 and IPC::Run3 are part of a standard perl installation.
They don't have the nice features of IPC::Run, but nevertheless allow
wrinting to another application. Have a look at them (e.g., with "perldoc
IPC::Run2"), they're quite well documented.
