Have you checked the output of the following command?

   "*fbset -i -fb /dev/**fb0*"

Have you tried to force the video driver to fbcon as an environment
variable such as:
 *SDL_VIDEODRIVER="fbcon"*

I suppose you could try to force it in your pygame code as such:
   *os.putenv('SDL_VIDEODRIVER', 'fbcon')*
