I have fixed this issue by creating an interfaces file with the following: auto eth0 allow-hotplug eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp
Also I noticed that there were errors in the systemd networking.service as there was no ifquery. Installing ifupdown2 solved that issue too. -Gautam.
