I couldn't point to the rtc0 device, but after much suffering I was able to 
create the rtc1 device.


root@beaglebone:~# ls -al | grep rtc*
-rw-r--r--   1 root root     0 Jul 27  2017 rtc0


root@beaglebone:~# ls -la /dev/rtc*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root      4 May 21  2016 /dev/rtc -> rtc0
crw------- 1 root root 254, 0 May 21  2016 /dev/rtc0
crw------- 1 root root 254, 1 May 21  2016 /dev/rtc1
