Hi Cody, Yesterday after my last post I re-tried a non externally powered usb hub. It's a generic from Staples office supply P/N 36302. The BBB running 3.14.1-bone2 found it and I subsequently attached a Rocketfish bluetooth adapter and a Sony PS3 Dual Shock controller all fine so far. So I can now start testing my next configuration. I don't know if anyone is keeping a list of working USB hubs (I think they are) if so they will probably be able to add this to the list.
This same usb hub did not work under Debian v3.8.
