A related free app that will open a temporary new BBEdit document, albeit with the entire text, not a selection, is QuickCursor (http:// www.hogbaysoftware.com/products/quickcursor/).
Saving from the temporary document will replace the text in the original. Closing just closes with no "discard" or "save" dialog. The source documents are not limited to BBEdit, but can include Safari text entry windows (like the one I'm typing in now) and those of other apps.
