I'm confused. You are aware that BBEdit is a _text_ editor, and does not deal
in rich text? Just characters, not italics or colors or variant fonts and sizes?
The File > Save as Styled Text… menu item just takes the syntax-colored display
of a text file and makes an RTF file that displays the same coloring.
If you open the clippings palette while you're editing an .html file, you'll
get an option to italicize selected text, but that just surrounds the selected
text with <emph>...</emph>. It's still an edit of the characters.
