I have about 30 slides I would like to post to our web site and display them as a slideshow.

Well, you have to define 'slideshow' more completely first. In general, this type of page is going to require some sort of scripting (php would be my choice, but there are plenty of others).

Here, coincidentally, is a copy of a php script I wrote last night that checks the current directory for image files and creates a html thumbnail page of those images.

Feel free to use it for non-commercial purposes as a starting point.

I would like it to display in a browser that would show properly on both Macs and PCs.

That should not be a problem for the most part. I haven't tested ,y own HTML output on windows because the script is for me and I don't use windows (ever) to access the web.

Can I do this directly in BBEdit? I have perused the help and user guide several times, but can not find a direct way to do it.

I did it all in BBEdit, but am unsure what you mean by 'directly'.

Failing that, I thought a fall-back position would be to use iMovie to create a movie of the images, and convert it to a QuickTime movie. If the above (slideshow) won't work, how do I do the QT posting?

I'd use iphoto to create a slideshow movie, it's all pretty straightforward that way.
