It could be a damaged tape. You can disable the volume in bconsole. This will force Bacula to select another tape. If the job runs OK with another tape, then it is likely a bad tape.

Hello all,

I’m losing my mind over here as I do not know what Bacula wants from me. It’s trying to run a job but is saying: Please mount append Volume "DK6452L4" or label a new one”. The tape drive has that tape loaded, I’ve rebooted both the tape drive and the Bacula server, the tape’s status is “Recycle” with the Recycle flag set to 1.

I’ve tried doing a mount:

*mount storage=LTO4 slot=1

3001 OK mount requested. Specified slot ignored. Device="LTO4" (/dev/nst0)

It ignores it since slot 1 (the slot that has the tape it wants) is already loaded in the drive. I’ve tried moving the tape out of the drive and back into the slot, and re-running the job, which will load the proper tape and then give me the same error.

List media shows this for that tape:

| MediaId | VolumeName | VolStatus | Enabled | VolBytes        | VolFiles | VolRetention | Recycle | Slot | InChanger | MediaType | LastWritten         |

|   9,850 | DK6452L4   | Recycle    |       1 |               1 | 0 |    5,184,000 |       1 |    1 |         1 | LTO4      | 2017-07-25 02:33:25 |

I’ve tried changing the volume’s status to “Append” instead of recycle with no change in results.

Running Bacula version 7.0.5.

Any ideas? I can’t fathom what it wants me to do, since the tape is currently loaded in the drive. Thanks!
