Hello,
I have just released the Bacula BETA 1.39.28 source tar file and Win32
binaries to their respective beta areas of Source Forge.
This is primarily a bug fix update to BETA version 1.39.26. The most
important item to note is the following:
==== IMPORTANT Encrypted Volume data may be unreadable ====
- If you have been using the data encryption feature of 1.39.x, please
be aware that certain combinations of encryption and other options
with version 1.39.0 through 1.39.26 created Volume data that cannot
be restored. We strongly recommend that anyone using encryption
carefully review his/her backups and at a minium do a Full backup
with 1.39.28 of all encrypted data. Robert Nelson has identified
and fixed it as follows:
As of 1.39.27:
No filters = Works fine
Sparse = Works fine
Compression = Works fine
Encryption = Works fine
Sparse + Compression = Works fine
Sparse + Encryption = Restore broken
Sparse + Compression + Encryption = Restore broken
Compression + Encryption = Restore broken
As of 1.39.28:
All combinations work fine.
===========
As I have previously mentioned, the official release of version 1.40 was
planned for mid-November, but considering the encryption bug that is now
fixed, and an important open bug concerning migration, the release will be
delayed until the migration problem is fixed and we have had time to ensure
that all the code works fine.
Note, both these problems are in new features. If you are not using new
features, the BETA version is quite stable, and I encourage everyone who can
to try it.
I've now had the time to read all the emails that accumulated during my
vacation, and have the following action items to attend to prior to the
production release of 1.40:
- Migration Volume span bug
- Rescue release
- Bug reports
- Test FIFO backup/restore -- make regression
- Doc items
- Add encryption regression tests
- Test Volume compatibility between machine architectures
- Encryption documentation
- Wrong jobbytes with query 12 (todo)
- bacula-1.38.2-ssl.patch
- Bare-metal recovery Windows (todo)
- Document need for UTF-8 format
If you have previously brought something to my attention for fixing, and it is
not on the above list or in the bugs database, then please assume that I
somehow lost it and send me a reminder message.
Best regards,
Kern
