I had this just the other day with a CentOS 4 (RHEL 4.0 compatible) system and bacula 1.38.11. Someone on another forum suggested that there was a problem with the version of the MySQL client. Iinstalled the mysqlclient14-devel-4.1.14-4.2.c4.1.i386.rpm (although MySQL was already running and working) and it all worked fine.
