Well, reading docs and getting knowledge helps. Then you would have known (and I assume you know about the hardlinks as you want to move your 2.4TB pool) that BackupPC (at least v3.x) relies heavily on hardlinks.
And no, nor Samba neither Windows offer hardlinks on SMB based filesystems.
