sbackup is on SID and I have Lenny(I want to backup to dist-upgrade) so I would
prefer backuppc forthis reason alone. Also, I hope to use backuppc for a more
complicated configuration so I would like to play around withit for this simple
configuration. I did spend some time trying to figure out how to configure but
there is a bit of a learning curve with this program. > I have dual boot

BackupPC doesn't seem like a good fit for backing up a single machine. It
can certainly do the job, but it excels at backing up multiple systems
centrally, not filling the role of a desktop backup to external storage.
To answer your question, the simplest solution for single PC backup as you
describe would probably be something like sbackup --
http://sourceforge.net/projects/sbackup/ -- which is naturally quite a
different goal than BackupPC.
