TCP retries can cover up a lot of problems.

You have the same ssh and kernel as everyone else.  Look at your 
hardware and wiring.  Does 'ifconfig' mention any errors?  If the 
connected switches are managed, are they showing errors?  Is everthing 
running full duplex?
