Hello all. Thanks first of all for this wonderful software!
I have a sever that has been happily running backuppc 2.1.0 for well over a
year, and decided to upgrade it to 3.1.0. The server is Debian stable, but
BackupPC has only been installed from source, never through apt-get or
aptitude. So I stopped the BackupPC process, and moved the old
/usr/local/BackupPC to /usr/local/old-BackupPC. I extracted 3.1.0 to
/usr/local/BackupPC. I cd into the directory /usr/local/BackupPC, and run
perl configure.pl.
I point it at the old config file (var/backups/BackupPC/conf/config.pl), and
it finds all the programs it needs. it also finds all the good info like the
old pool and image directories. Then when it tries to install the binaries,
it dies on me. It prints this info:
Ok, we're about to:
- install the binaries, lib and docs in /usr/local/BackupPC,
- create the data directory /var/backups/BackupPC,
- create/update the config.pl file /var/backups/BackupPC/conf/config.pl,
- optionally install the cgi-bin interface.
--> Do you want to continue? [y]? y
Created /var/backups/BackupPC
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/pool
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/cpool
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/pc
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/trash
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/conf
Created /var/backups/BackupPC/log
Installing binaries in /usr/local/BackupPC/bin
can't open bin/BackupPC for reading
It doesn't seem that the installer should have any issues seeing the bin
directory -

I did see someone post with a similar problem back in 2004, and that was
simply that they ran the configure.pl outside of the /usr/local/BackupPC
directory, which I am not doing.
Has anyone seen this before, or is there someway to get verbose logging so I
can find what is tripping the installer up?
Thanks,
Jim
