It has to have threads enabled because as already said rh ships with
apache2 which can be run with the worker mpm => hence perl has to be
thread safe.
You'll gain up 20 % of speed when running a non-threaded perl and
another 5-10% when compiling your own perl. I don't have any numbers for
apache-1, libxml-2 and libxslt but I could swear that the preformance
would not get worse if you compile everything your own. Which is not
really tricky. I have a sh-script which does the job for me. I've posted
already to the list so it should be in the archives.
