Things work fine until I try the LRSenv->new call - at which point no code after this call gets executed.
My suspicion then would be a segfault somewhere. Try adding in AxKit::Debug() calls to see if you really do get past ->new() and/or what happens then.
Then try running your httpd under gdb as described in SUPPORT.
