I did establish that the Intel Fortran compiler (ifort) does accept -c
and -o together, although I didn't have time to run it through the
autoconf test. I have not had time to try the pathscale compiler yet
(lack of available licenses). Pathscale is very GCC friendly, so I
imagine it should.
