Debian's run-parts tool, that runs all of the scripts in a
particular directory, limits the files that it runs to those
whose names consist entirely of upper and lower case letters,
digits, underscores, and hyphens.  This is useful because it
avoids running "scripts" that are actually backups (*~) or Emacs
auto-save files (#*#) or revision-control (*,v) or whatever.  I
think that this is a generally good idea that any similar
feature, such as the one you're proposing, should take into
consideration.
