I have changed my mind again: I don't think the AM_SUBST_IGNORE patch should be committed now. Ralf and I have come to a possible solution of the "Makefile.in bloat": http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/automake/2005-10/msg00072.html If that is implemented, then the size of Makefile.in's will be no longer affected by the number of AC_SUBSTed variables, so the need for the feature won't be so strong. Moreover, the implementation of the proposal quoted above would force a significant change to the AM_SUBST_IGNORE implementation. Have a nice day, Stepan
