I had some confusion about getting AC_CANONICAL_TARGET early enough in configure.ac to eliminate the warnings. Are there any statements in the documentation about the relative ordering of AC_CANONICAL_* and AC_CONFIG_*? I couldn't find any, and it took awhile to figure out the correct order.
