Well it's not a VCS package anymore (so those guidelines don't apply) nor does 
it need to be one since upstream doesn't sign release tags/commits anyway. Why 
work harder to get the same code with no tangible benefit?

The other changes were removing mostly redundant code. Probably the only change 
I disagree with is removing the provides arrays...
