The quick answer is 'we decided not to'. Use of Transifex is optional. Translators can use any platform that they like. We coordinate translation though through this email list. A translator who does not use and submit via this list may be wasting their time. A particular problem arises when two translators, e.g. for Catalan or Slovakian both translate Audacity. I do not know Catalan or Slovakian, and can only guess at how to resolve the differences. In the end the translators need to talk with each other and sort it out between them. What do I do if I get a .po file here and a pull request for the same file on GitHub? Or a 100% complete status on Transifex? The .po file here wins. If a translator has a question about a translation string it is best if it comes here. It may affect other languages too. So, Martin, we decided not to upload direct from Transifex. --James.
