It seems as if AUCTeX is not able to call ispell/aspell when it is
working in a file that is not located on the c partition.
If ispell has been started by another mode there is no problem. AUCTeX
will use it. But if I work in two buffers, and I switch dictionary in
the non-AUCTeX buffer, AUCTeX will fail when I switch back, and I will
have to shut down Emacs with ctrl alt del.
My best guess is it is related to AUCTeX since it only affects buffers
using AUCTeX.

Thanks for replying. I have tried out the "official" Emacs client.
Actually, I think the guy who makes EmacsW32 also makes the official
Win32 build of emacs. Unfortunately, it made no difference. There was
still an error loading Ispell.
I always use EmacsClient. Could that cause problems? Either way, the
problem persists when Emacs is loaded without a server/client connection.
It is a rather weird problem. I have no idea why it happens. As I also
wrote earlier, the most frustrating this is that ispell works fine in
any other mode than AUCTeX---which is by far is the most important mode
in my Emacs setup.
Thanks,
Rasmus

I have recently reinstalled Emacsw32 and AUCTeX 11.85.
I'd check if it also happens with the precompiled version of Emacs 22
obtainable from ftp.gnu.org and make sure that emacsclient is not
involved. Disclaimer: The error is quite peculiar, so I don't really
know what the problem might be.
