I see a specific definition in a generic relation, but I don't
understand what the specific definition is good for and I want the
definition to be more general.

definition: A URI that points to the next feed in a series of feeds.
For example, in a reverse-choronological series of feeds, the 'next'
URI would point deeper into the past.

I understand that. I don't understand how that enables a new feature
or easier interoperation. In otherwords, the rationale for the
definition seems circular to me.
