As regards accessible HD radios, this past April 28, Mike Duke wrote on this
(the ACBRA) list:

"All I can say right now is that a major company, with many local outlets
across the country, is set to announce a new accessible HD radio within the
next month."

Well, apparently more can now be said; Insignia has produced, and Best Buy
will market, an accessible HD radio / alarm clock, featuring dual alarms, 10
AM and 20 FM presets, and access to radio reading services carried on HD
channels!  Release is scheduled for July; preorders may be placed now;
price, $99.00.

Subject: [leadership] Regarding An Accessible HD Radio

While you may still find one through a dealer, the Dice unit is no longer in
production.

To answer Sue's questions, it apparently had some quality control issues,
and most of the individual units turned out to be not very sensitive.

I own one, but that is partly because I was on the team that worked with
them on the accessibility standards.

My suggestion is to sit tight for about another month.

All I can say right now is that a major company, with many local outlets
across the country, is set to announce a new accessible HD radio within the
next month.

I have been working on this project also as part of a group from the
International Association of Audio Information Services, which is also the
group that approached Dice about the unit Sue mentioned.

Don't ask who, how much, etc. I can't say anymore before the official
announcement is released.
