I have live clients using both 2.4.x and 2.6.x and haven't had any problems with either. So, use whichever you are most comfortable with, but I'd suggest not using an (apparently?) unsupported distro like FC1. ie, AFAIK, redhat do not release fixes/updates for FC1 anymore... Personally, I've dumped redhat in favour of debian, but I don't want to start a flame-war about the best distro. I just wanted to suggest that you use a distro where updates are/will be available for the life of your asterisk system.
