I have setup a gentoo box with asterisk and I second these suggestions.

The latest portage tree has the latest release of  *.  However if you plan on keeping up to date with CVS head, I suggest you for-go using the portgage install, and use the source instead.

Yes My tips are..

Install mpg123 0.59r (do NOT use portage) You can install by doing make
mpg123 in the asterisk src directory.

Install asterisk, zaptel and libpri from src also.

Other than that you can use portage for all other software.

Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Gentoo

I'm planning on installing Gentoo as my distro and wanted to check here to
see if anyone has any tips or ticks I should know about that aren't on the
Wiki. I'm installing the TDM400P with a single FXO module for
connectivity to my home PSTN connection. Anything I should know or do
that would make this go easy?

Thanks in advance,

Dave
