From what I have been told and my own experience, you cannot set the 7960G's switch port to be in a different VLAN unless you are using a Cisco switch. The way it is set on a Cisco switch is through the following configuration parameters for an individual port:

switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 3
switchport voice vlan 2

The voice traffic than flows on vlan 2 and the network traffic from the PC is on vlan 3.

I am setting up an Asterisk system with Cisco 7960 phones. I have a PoE injector to insert between the patch panel and HP 2626 switch. I plan to plug the users pc into the phone and the phone into the wall. I would like the phones to have a seperate subnet from the phones for performance reasons.

May be a silly question, but with the pc and phone sharing the same switch port, how will it know to seperate the traffic and subnets?
