If they are using an IAD (Larscom/Vina eLink, Adtran 616, or equivalent), they can drop the data channels off on an Ethernet port and leave the voice channels for you on the IAD's downstream T-1 port. You can then use whatever firewall/router you want, but preserve the digital voice channels into your Asterisk box.
