Hi,
G.729 requires a license from Digium no matter
what. As long as asterisk doesn't have to encode anything for transmitting as
G.729 you can use passthru, this does mean however you will lose the asterisk
features such as voicemail. The way the codec for asterisk works is it
is based around your IDE hardrive (for the license), thus using a SCSI hardrive
will not work. Digium is working with the company who made the asterisk codec
however so that SCSI will work in the future.
