you can also use a gsm card.
the vgsm card allows sending sms from the AMI, along with
full charset support (even cirillic!), sms reports,
multipage sms and so on...

We've used www.Simplewire.com , they have a x86 linux executable
which we wrap in a
shell script and call from the dialplan with a System() call.
We've been happy with them for years.
