Yup, I did modprobe when I loaded everything. If I issue the reboot command then I see the zaptel being unloaded.

This can either be done by using modprobe commands in the rc.local or by using the init script that comes with the zaptel source.. just run "make config" from /usr/src/zaptel (AFAIK only for redhat)..
