Hello,

I just wanted to comment and ask for advice on how to fix a DTMF recognition problem that apparently has been affecting asterisk users for a long time now.

Duplicate digits are detected by Asterisk specifically when using out of band tone recognition.

I've done extensive testing with detailed debug traces with one of our partner providers. The scenario is the following:

- RFC2833 standard configured on both end-points.

- RFC2833 functionality has been confirmed receiving the traditional 6 packets per DTFM RTP Event: 3 for the Event Start and 3 for the Event End. This has been done using tethereal in one end and ethereal in the other (tethereal on the Asterisk server where only CLI has been installed).

The test consisted on the 2 following types of calls:

1) Call from analog headset in the following way:

- Scheme:

Provider (RFC2833) => SIP => Asterisk Server (RFC 2833)

- Diagnostic:

    * Correct amount of RTP Event Packets.

    * Additional Payload RTP Event Packets seen.

    * Duplicate recognition, wrong number.

2) Call from analog headset pressing the MUTE button under the same scenario:

- Diagnostic:

    * Correct amount of RTP Event Packets.

    * No Payload Packets around RTP Event Packets.

    * Correct Number recognition.

After asking for advice from Asterisk users, I was told Asterisk doesn't seem to stop performing in-band DTMF tone recognition while doing out of band.

Consequences:

This represents a big problem in our environment where IVR development is essential and where we work with different providers that deliver different levels of audio, meaning that one with an increased level with tend to produce on Asterisk duplicate tone recognition if set to a an out of band method.

We'll greatly appreciate the advice, new services’ release is being held up because of this fault.

Thanks in advance for your support.
