Back in the day (70s), every system programmer and IBM SE i knew had a stockpile of code and JCL that they brought into every site and left with (plus additions) as they moved on. Sometimes it was on cards, sometimes on those small diameter tape reels IBM sent service on, sometime listings, sometimes microfiche. When PCs came into the picture, I assume it got much easier.
