One such way that this may be accomplished is with two artifactory instances. 
One instance will essentially be a proxy for the other. One of the instances 
would be available internally and the other externally. The externally 
available instance would require authentication for any action (anonymous 
access disabled). This externally available instance would use remote 
repositories to allow access to the internal instance. Since they are both on 
the same network, there is no need for the externally available instance to 
cache anything since it will be downloaded from the same network anyways.
