Allowed to delete a Base field in Overlay form?

** Hello list, Is it possible/allowed to delete a Base field in an Overlay Form? In other words, I create an Overlay for a Form, an Overlay for a View of that Form, and I remove a field that is present on the Base form...... Thanks.
