If you are comfortable with Import and Export then you can do this yourself. You cannot just change the "CI type" because the class actually maps to a join form with the attributes for that CI class. To do this right you should export the CIs in question to a CSV file, adjust the attributes to match the new CI class you want, and then import. If your class is stand-alone without relationships to other CIs, you can even use ARImport to bring them in. I would put them into another data set though to verify that you get what you want, then you can reconcile them to your production data set. If you have relationships to work with then you would need to use cmdbdriver or AIE or the solution that Ben has proposed.
