Solaris 10, Sybase 12.5.3
I'm trying to upgrade a 5.1.2 arserver to 7.1.
On my stage 5 restart, ar_install started arserver but couldn't start arforkd.
I then tried a manual start (arsystem), and noticed this in the console output:
ars02-new% /opt/ar/ars02/bin/arsystem start &

ars02-new% Action Request System initializing.

Installing as arsystem
Installation will re-start at stage 5
Because you are installing the AR System software as a user other
than root, note the following:
- Some of the files that are normally created or updated in the
/etc directory during a root installation will be placed
in the AR System home directory
- In order to complete the installation process, the files
must be copied to the /etc directory at the specified time
To facilitate this installation, please create and give full
read/write/execute permissions to the /etc/arsystem directory

AR System Server did not start in the allocated time.
Do you want to continue waiting for the AR System Server to start [y] n
Could not start AR System arforkd
AR System installation terminated at Stage 0: Initialization.
The new AR System directories are installed. The previous
AR System directories have been saved with .bak suffix.
Check /usr/tmp/ar_install.log and /usr/tmp/arErrorLog
to identify the problem. If necessary, call Technical Support
to resolve the problem.
Once the problem has been resolved, continue the installation from
the point at which it terminated by issuing the following command
./ar_install_SW00276692 -s
where is the number of stage at which the previous
installation terminated.
I hope that those "corrupt" filters aren't stopping arforkd. I kind of doubt
it. Anyway, I can't connect with the Admin tool to fix.
Does arforkd care about Java to start up? In the 5.1.2 arsystem file, the
JAVADIR env variable needed to start with ":". Is that still true in 7.1?
#JAVADIR=JREPATH #installer will add the ":" in front of this value since
it might be blank
JAVADIR=:/usr/java:/usr/java/jre/lib/sparc/server/:/usr/java/bin
Thanks,
Jim O'Hara
