We're using AR Server 7.1 p6 with Oracle in a RAC, and as far as I know, we've never had any issues with it, and we have failed over from one server to another. It's possible that the AR server got a couple intermittent errors, but it has never crashed on us or shut itself down. I'm not sure what might be different in our environment, but I would be willing to help look into things (that is, compare our setup to yours) if you help me know what to look for.

Oracle told us that the Transparent Application Failover (TAF) code that made the switch via OCI libaries wasn't supported in the arserver binaries.
