If many of the IT resources you plan to track will not be usually accessible by the Discovery tool (remote laptops, PDAs, servers behind another firewall, etc.) you will only be able to track those with a local agent on those boxen. If you already own LANDesk, SMS, or something else you might want to consider integrating with those instead, even though it would be more work. For example, BMC's discovery tools give you reconciliation rules. If you have multiple other data sources, it would become more time-consuming to build them there (although it isn't a huge deal.) In my company's case, the management decided we had enough tools with an overlap, so we didn't purchase them.
