** Sorry I am a little late on this one... I have used an escalation to set the drop down menu from the old character menu. This also works when your users insist that then new drop down item be in alpha order instead of being at the end. Run and escalation to set the current values to a character field, run another to set the drop down field back to the values after adjusting the order of the attributes.

Also .. do not forget to add a "Clear" option on the menu if you go
this route. (Selection fields have it by default, but a menu does not.
) Unless the field is a required field and then you may not want the
"Clear" option too. :)
