Update: Actually it works for an iPad 2, after running
$ mkdir ipad $ ifuse -u $(idevice_id -l) ipad/ access to ipad/DCIM/*APPLE/ folders is provided. It fails for the iPad I'm using nowadays, see https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/828 . I run into an issue when trying to compile newer packages and have got no time to continue within the next days or perhaps weeks.
