I found this issue a while ago and fixed it with the following in mdadm.conf:
MAILADDR f...@bar.com
It's explained at the bottom of the mdadm.conf file.

It did. I was just digging around in there to confirm the result of:
# mdadm --detail --scan >> /etc/mdadm.conf
and I totally missed it. Thank you for the help. I would have searched for a
while :)
