Actually, I just noticed these are in our stock /etc/inputrc too

"\e[5C": forward-word
"\e[5D": backward-word
"\e\e[C": forward-word
"\e\e[D": backward-word
"\e[1;5C": forward-word
"\e[1;5D": backward-word

So I have a suspicion that my guess was wrong. You aren't using vi
mode in bash, are you?
