Hi, I also have the problem same you described on Openbox + Xcompmgr. I "solved" it by disable guest's 3D acceleration. Another solution is to disable the composite.
I'm using radeon driver so I guess this problem might have more to do with VirtualBox or KDE's widget/theme engine than the driver it self (I might be wrong, though). Regards, Smith Dhumbumroong
