I have the same problem.  I haven't traced the problem to the source yet but to 
get a wireless connection, I need to do "iwpriv authmode 2" on the command 
line, then kill and restart dhcpcd for ath0.

I have an older laptop with an Atheros chip, and it doesn't seem to need this 
step for some reason.
