FYI that the ppp package already contains a (Linux-only) PPPoE client plugin, which is enough for most users. They shared the same "rp-pppoe" name before, which was corrected in 2021 (https://github.com/ppp-project/ppp/commit/b2c36e6c0e1655aea9b1b0a03a8160f42a26c884).

The rp-pppoe package provides additional PPPoE relay/server implementation (and supports user-mode pppoe which makes it work for BSD/Solaris).
